Der gebürtige Pole Alexander Tansman siedelt 1919 nach Frankreich über, wo er schon bald als einer der prominentesten europäischen Komponisten und Musiker seiner Generation gefeiert wird. Seine jüdische Herkunft zwang ihn zu Beginn des Zweiten Weltkrieges über Lissabon ins amerikanische Exil, wo er –wie viele seiner Kollegen –für den Film komponierte. Seine Freundschaft mit Igor Strawinsky hat sein Schaffen hörbar beeinflusst. Tansman kehrte 1946 nach Paris zurück. Seine 24 Intermezzi, die während der Zeit der Flucht aus Frankreich entstanden, sind ein intimes und eindringliches musikalisches Tagebuch. Alle 32 Stücke, die die mehrfach preisgekrönte Pianistin Eliane Reyes für diese CD eingespielt hat, sind Weltersteinspielungen von Tansmans Kompositionen.
