Das Black Ark Studio wurde zu einem kreativen Zentrum der lokalen Musikszene, wo fast alle bekannt gewordenen Musiker Jamaikas häufig anzutreffen waren. Er destillierte ständig neue Sounds aus seinem beständig wachsenden Fundus an Mitschnitten. 1979 ging das Studio in Flammen auf. Lee Perry war wegen Verdachtes auf Brandstiftung drei Tage lang in Untersuchungshaft. Letztendlich wurden die tatsächlichen Ursachen nie aufgeklärt.
