When a band makes as big a contribution to rock as The Yardbirds, then they deserve a Repertoire Popumentary special. We turn the spotlight on the British group that came to fame in the 1960s with a double CD set that comprises no less than 50 tracks, spanning all phases of their productive career. The Yardbirds emphasised the need for experimentation as they moved on from R&B roots. From 1964 onwards, they unleashed a stream of raunchy blues performances like ‘Boom Boom’, ‘Honey In Your Hips’, and ‘I Wish You Would’, with Eric Clapton on guitar. Later versions of the band included Jeff Beck, who played on their hit singles ‘Evil Hearted You’ and ‘Shapes Of Things’, while late comer Jimmy Page played on ‘Little Games’ and ‘Ha Ha Said The Clown’ from 1967. With material culled from classic singles and EPs, here is rock history in the making.
