"Es lohnt sich aber, genauer hinzuhören – denn dann entdeckt man musikalische Leckerbissen mit viel Soul, wie etwa den Bonustrack „I want you back“ oder den titelgebenden Song „100 Miles From Memphis“. Besonders hörenswert ist auch Sheryl Crows Interpretation des Klassikers „Sign Your Name“ von Terence Trent D’Arby, zu der niemand anderes als Justin Timberlake die Background-Vocals beitrug. “Long Road Home” is a gospel-influenced, upbeat song with jazzy horns that’s fun to listen to. While the title track is catchy in the vein of classic Sheryl Crow, “Eye to Eye” cuts an authentic reggae groove. And on what's clearly done as a tribute to Michael Jackson, Crow delivers an incredibly faithful rendition Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” as a bonus track, sounding uncannily like the young MJ. 100 Miles From Memphis is a nice throwback to the Memphis Stax sound.
