Nach ihrem Wechsel von Carrere Records stellte Saxons siebtes Album »Innocence Is No Excuse«, ursprünglich am 24. Juni 1985 veröffentlicht, die erste Veröffentlichung auf dem neuen Label EMI dar. Es war zusätzlich das letzte Album, auf dem der langjährige Bassist Steve Dawson spielte, der gemeinsam mit Sänger Biff Byford, den Gitarristen Graham Oliver und Paul Quinn sowie Drummer Nigel Glockler gemeinsam mit Produzent Simon Hanhart das Album in den Münchner Union Studios aufnahm. Anschließend wurden die Aufnahmen in den Wisseloord Studios im niederländischen Hilversum abgemischt.
