Born To Be Hurt: The Anthology 1966-1982
Alabama born, SANDY POSEY had done sessions for Elvis Presley and Percy Sledge (including ‘When A Man Loves A Woman’) when she achieved a quartet of indelible pop hits in 1966 / 67. ‘Born A Woman’, ‘Single Girl’, ‘What A Woman In Love Won’t Do’ and ‘I Take It Back’ combined chart success with a degree of notoriety for their perceived anti-feminist lyrics. There was far more to her than that initial burst, however, as displayed by this uniquely assembled 29-track deluxe CD.
It traces her through MGM, Columbia, Monument, Warner and Audiograph recordings up until 1982. Sandy worked with legendary figures including Chips Moman, Billy Sherill, Joe South and Richard Perry and was supplied with songs by the likes of Penn & Oldham, John D. Loudermilk, Martha Sharp and P. F. Sloan. More comprehensive than any Posey package before it, this is a sumptuous slab of southern country-tinged pop. (ravenrecords. com. au)
