Wie die Zikade, jenes geheimnisvolle Insekt, das nymphengleich und wurzelumgeben in der Erde lebt, aus der es dann hervorkriecht, um für kurze Zeit zu singen, ist die Musik von Hazmat Modine erdig und eins mit
ihren Ursprüngen; während sie gleichzeitig auf rätselhafte, jenseitige Welten anspielt.
Die Besetzung der Band gibt Einblick in die Hazmat’sche Methodik: Schumans Gitarre, diatonische Mundharmonika und intensiv-erdiger Gesang geben den Ton an. Eine Bläserfraktion – Tuba, chromatische Mundharmonika, Trompete, Flügelhorn, Posaune, Tenor- und Baritonsax, Pikkoloflöte und Duduk geben das melodische Rüstzeug, während die Gitarren und Perkussionsinstrumente für den Groove sorgen.
Zu den 14 Titeln auf der CD gesellen sich Kooperationen mit der elektrisierenden Gangbé Brass Band aus Benin, sowie künstlerische Allianzen mit dem Kronos-Quartett, sowie der US amerikanischen Vokalistin Natalie Merchant.
