The late FRED NEIL was one of the most compelling folk-rockers to emerge from Greenwich Village in the mid-60s. A true cult figure of enormous influence, Neil inspired everyone from Bob Dylan, John Sebastian and Stephen Stills to David Crosby, Tim Buckley and Paul Kantner. That he chose to retire from the music industry in 1971, never to record again has only deepened the enigma and strengthened the extraordinary impact of his low, rich voice and intensely personal and reflective compositions. Raven has culled 25 tracks from six classic albums for this unique, multi-label, single CD career overview.
Taking in two rare early tracks from his folk roots, this collection moves through his genre-defining folk-rock albums Bleecker & MacDougal and Fred Neil for Elektra and ends with his last recordings from the Other Side of this Life album in 1971. All his greatest songs are included: ‘Little Bit of Rain’, ‘Other Side of This Life’, ‘Candy Man’, ‘The Dolphins’ and his own version of the Nilsson hit ‘Everybody’s Talkin’’. This collection features some of the most enduring and groundbreaking music from the entire 1960s. For an insight into the magic of this great artist Echoes of My Mind is the perfect starting point.
