Don Gibson wurde 1928 in Shelby, North Carolina / USA geboren. Schon
während seiner Schulzeit trat er in lokalen Clubs auf. In Knoxville war er ab 1953 regelmäßiger Gast einer Radioshow.
Zwischen 1956 und 1980 war er mit 82 Titeln in den amerikanischen C&W-Charts vertreten. Ein großer Teil dieser Titel fand auch Eingang in die Pop-Charts. Gibson war nicht nur als Gitarrist und Sänger erfolgreich sondern auch als Komponist und Texter etlicher Hits. In den 70er Jahren hatte er zusammen mit Sue Thompson eine Reihe von Titeln in den C&WCharts. Natürlich wurde er als Topstar der Countryszene auch Mitglied der Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
