Burning arrived at the recording sessions of their second LP full of self confidence. After the relative critical, but not sales-wise, success of their first album, "Madrid", they'd been chosen to write the main theme song for a movie in which they ended up appearing. "¿Qué hace una chica como tú en un sitio como este?" ("What's a girl like you doing in a place like this?"), they asked, without realising they had written one of the fundamental songs in the history of Spanish rock. The single with it on the A side did have good sales, and the band achieved some space in the rock press of the time. Then Star, the key magazine to understand the Spanish underground movement, featured them on its cover. Atypical, hard to classify and right at the point of balance between dangerous and likeable, the members of Burning showed in the interview by Oriol Llopis that they had what it takes to be rock stars, and they only needed a further step in the studio to prove it. Leaving behind their city and the social circle they had created, they travelled to Barcelona for the recording, with a handful of great songs in their hands. Enrique Tudela, an impeccable guitarist and main producer at the Belter label, had the difficult task of taming these beasts, owners of a bigger status and trying to learn how to cope with their new toxic addictions. The sessions were chaotic and took place mainly at night to avoid escapades to the local bars, but they were very productive. A record that starts its two sides with two classic rock tracks such as 'Mueve tus caderas' y 'Seducción' can't go wrong, and this goodbye to a decade was no exception. They made the song about the out of place girl side A's second, and then tried to balance dirty and provocative rock such as 'Puedes sentirlo' with tales of sex in the doorway ('Balada para una viuda'), stories about the relations around them ('Las chicas del drugstore', 'Un poquito nada más'), passages of high emotional content ('Lo que el tiempo no borró') and paranoid observations on the role of famous musicians ('Bajo los focos'). Everything was wrapped in a surprising sleeve which showed a radical change of image as a nod to the booming modernity, perfectly exemplified by the horrible coloured border that frames the central picture. They seemed to be playing confounding games, but didn't hide their cards: over the table laid pocketknives and needles, records and pills, porn magazines and a typewriter. Their main tools. LP was possibly their most successful with the public, the one that secured them the support of the specialised press and provided them with better conditions when playing live, but it has a dark side nonetheless. It shows that they're about to hit the big time, but at the same time reveals that something isn't right within the group. The cost of their lifestyle as consolidated rock stars isn't matched by the money coming in, the differences within a band that seemed to work as a fraternity worsen, and the seeds of malcontent appear in the most obvious details. The drummer on the album cover hasn't taken part in the recording. Enrique, founder of the band, leaves them at the end of the sessions, and heroine use increases selfishness and arguments. Nothing would be the same after "El fin de la década", but it's quite likely that these nine tracks meant that the band's brand could keep on working.
