Zur Zeit des Krieges der 3 Königreiche herrscht in China Chaos. Um den Krieg für sich zu entscheiden versucht General Cao Cao (Jiang Wen) sich die Dienste Guans (Donnie Yen), des größten Kämpfers des chinesischen Reiches, zu sichern. Doch der ist Sympathisant Liu Bei, des größten Feindes Caos. Um Guan umzustimmen, lässt Cao dessen Geliebte Qi Lan entführen und droht sie zu töten, sollte er sich nicht ihm anschließen. Guan bleibt keine Wahl und er verhilft den Truppen Caos zum Sieg. Doch kaum ist Qi Lan wieder frei, entfacht Guan den Krieg erneut und eilt seinem alten Freund zu Hilfe.
