Tenorsaxophonist Bill McHenry stammt gebürtig aus Maine und studierte in den 90ern am New England Conservatory of Music u. a. bei Jimmy Giuffre. Bereits seit 1992 ist er in der New Yorker Szene aktiv.
Auf "Ghosts Of The Sun" spielt er mit seinen Sidemen Ben Monder (git), Reid Anderson (bass) und Paul Motian (Drums) eigene Werke. Dabei entstand ein recht meditatives Down-bis Midtempo Album, dessen Songs immer wieder zwischen Freiheit und Struktur wechseln.
Als wichtige Inspirationen nennt McHenry das Kompositions-Multitalent Pat Metheny, die Freejazz-Legende Ornette Coleman sowie die unverkennbare Klangsprache des Bebop-Pioniers Coleman Hawkins. Alle diese Einflüsse sind auf "Ghosts Of The Sun" gut hör- und spürbar.
