The SACD uses a higher digital resolution than the audio CD and also offers the possibility to store multi-channel sound (surround sound). To enjoy the music in high-end quality, a special SACD player is required. Thanks to the hybrid function, most of the products marked "SACD" in our store can also be played on conventional CD players. In this case, however, the sound does not differ from that of a normal CD. In case of deviations, we point this out separately (non-hybrid).

Friedhelm Flamme interpretiert Henri Mulet
1878 im Schatten der Basilika Sacré-Cœur geboren, studierte Henri Mulet am Pariser Conservatoire u. a. Orgel bei Charles Marie Widor und Louis Vierne, der seinen Schüler zu den „glänzendsten unter den Musikerpersönlichkeiten“ zählte und ihn als „einen tüchtigen Virtuosen und einen sehr feinen Improvisator“ bezeichnete. 1923 bis 1931 wirkte Mulet als Professor an der Pariser Schola cantorum. Dort zählte zu seinen Kollegen u. a. auch Camille Saint-Saëns, während Gabriel Fauré als einer der ersten Studenten genannt werden muss. Mulets kompositorisches Schaffen widmete sich in erster Linie der Orgel und die 1920 publizierten Esquisses Byzantines entstanden in den Jahren 1914 bis 1919 und sind bis auf den heutigen Tag Mulets am häufigsten gespielte Sammlung. Während die rhythmisch-metrische Struktur, geprägt durch die von Richard Wagner gegeißelte „Quadratur des Tonsatzes“, in den meisten Kompositionen Mulets als eher konventionell bezeichnet werden muss, erweist sich die Harmonik, zwischen Debussy, Wagner und Vierne changierend, als äußerst reizvoll.

Henri Mulet was born in the immediate vicinity of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in 1878 and studied organ with Charles-Marie Widor and Louis Vierne at the Paris Conservatory. Vierne ranked his student with the »most brilliant of musical personalities« and described him as »an outstanding virtuoso and a very fine improviser.« From 1923 to 1931 Mulet was a professor at the Schola Cantorum in Paris; Camille-Saint-Saëns was one of his colleagues, and Gabriel Fauré merits mention as one of his first students. Mulet’s oeuvre focused first and foremost on the organ, and the Esquisses byzantines composed from 1914 to 1919 and published in 1920 has continued to be his most frequently performed collection of pieces. While the rhythms and meters in most of his pieces – the »quadrature of the compositional structure« castigated by Richard Wagner – were rather conventional, the harmonies negotiating between Debussy, Wagner, and Vierne are very appealing.

klassik.com 08/2018: »Lauscht man den knapp neunzig Minuten umfassenden, melodisch-impressionistisch gefärbten Stücken imn Surround-Format, entsteht zwangsweise der Eindruck, man würde tatsächlich in der Stiftskirche zu Bad Gandersheim sitzen und der romantisch geprägten Mühleisen-Orgel (inklusive Schwellwerk) lauschen, die sich durch einen überdurchschnittlich warmen, schwebenden und zugleich auf angenehme Weise durchdringenden Klang auszeichnet (Stichwort Tiefbass im Bourdon). Nich zuletzt dank der Orgel selbst und der exzellenten Tontechnik heben sich die melodieführenden Stimmen jederzeit klar ab.
