Während seiner Leitung von Amerikas zweitältestem Orchester, dem 1880 gegründeten St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, war es Leonard Slatkin ein Anliegen, amerikanisches Repertoire mit diesem Orchester regelmäßig aufzunehmen. So ging er mit dem Orchester überdurchschnittlich oft ins Studio, um u. a. Werke von Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland und Leroy Anderson aufzunehmen. Slatkin verhielt sich ganz ähnlich mit dem National Symphony Orchestra aus Washington D. C., als er dessen Leitung inne hatte. So sind ebenfalls großartige Einspielungen vieler Werke von William Schuman, John Corigliano, Morton Gould und Philip Sousa und vielen weiteren großartigen US-amerikanischen Komponisten entstanden. Diese Aufnahmen sind hier erstmals vereint auf 13 CDs.
