Sir John Eliot Gardiner is one of the world's leading conductors, not only of Baroque music but across the whole repertoire. Sir John Eliot Gardiner, geboren 1943 in Dorset, England (wo er noch heute einen Öko-Bauernhof betreibt), studierte Geschichte und Musik. 1964 gründete er mit anderen Studenten den Monteverdi Choir und legte damit den Grundstein für seine musikalische Weltkarriere. Mit dem ebenfalls von ihm initiierten Monteverdi Orchestra, den English Baroque Soloists und dem Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique setzte er neue Maßstäbe insbesondere für die Interpretation der Werke Claudio Monteverdis und Johann Sebastian Bachs.
