Biografie
Arthur W. Upfield, geb. 1890 im südenglischen Gosport, wanderte im Alter von 20 Jahren nach Australien aus. Dort streifte er als Gelegenheitsarbeiter durch die Weiten des Outback. Seine dabei als Pelztierjäger, Schafzüchter, Goldsucher und Opalschürfer gewonnenen Erfahrungen fanden Eingang in 28 Kriminalromane. Hauptfigur ist der sympathische Inspektor Bonaparte, der mit faszinierender Findigkeit verzwickte Situationen und menschliche Probleme zu entwirren versteht. Heute zählen Upfields Bony-Romane mit ihren grandiosen Landschaftsschilderungen und der kenntnisreichen Darstellung der Kultur der australischen Ureinwohner zweifellos zu den Klassikern des Kriminalromans. Arthur W. Upfield starb 1964.
