Product Information

Melanie's third album “Candles In The Rain” was released in April 1970 and charted at # 5 in the UK and # 17 in the US. It features two of the songs for which she is bestknown: her version of the Rolling Stones' “Ruby Tuesday” (which she took to # 9 UK and # 52 US) and “What Have They Done To My Song Ma?” (UK # 39 and a # 14 US hit for the New Seekers).

The album also features the rare full 7: 40 version of “Lay Down (Candles In The Rain)” with the Edwin Hawkins Singers (US # 6) and another A. A. Milne cover. The bonus tracks are songs that Melanie wrote for the film “All The Right Noises”, and end with her version of Lindisfarne's “Meet Me On The Corner” (re-titled “Dream Seller”).

“Leftover Wine” (September 1970, UK # 22, US # 33) was recorded live in New York (with the exception of studio recording “Peace Will Come”, a US # 32 single). Melanie plays different interpretations of some of her own favourites to a very appreciative audience along with some songs exclusive to this album. The very rare bonus track was the b-side of “Peace Will Come”.

Released to coincide with Melanie's 60th birthday on 3rd February 2007, these two albums have been unavailable for many years (and never in one package). They are now issued with all the elements of the original sleeves intact along with a lengthy sleevenote by Record Collector contributor Alan Robinson.
