Reasons to Make a Christmas Record by Marah: 1 Christmas music makes most people really happy. Giddy even. hat's the whole point of music in the first place. 2 Really good holiday songs allow decent "liberal" folks to celebrate certain "conservative" values like family, friends, eating dinner together, roasting chestnuts and home fires burning without employing tactics like tightening borders, tax cuts for the elite, veiled racism, and Old Testament brainwashing!3 Hearing Burl Ives sing "Holly Jolly Christmas" over the mono PA in a CVS or Walgreens while you stand looking at body wash in aisle 3 on December 19th is inspirational in ways that hearing, say, "Ooh Baby I Love Your Ways" is just not. 4 At the heart of all classic Christmas music is a fairly non-religious plea to spread a little peace, and to just simply smile. 5 Because it is the most wonderful time of the year. We love AC/DC but "Mistress for Christmas" is just a tad less seasonal than "Silver Bells".8 To make a Yuletide record we had to record it in the middle of the blistering NYC summer heat. That gave us the excuse to decorate our apartment studio with string lights and plastic snowmen. So we celebrated Christmas in July too!9 Nothing makes a better night than hanging out with your friends, lovers, and family members in a taproom a week before Christmas day, drinking beer and singing "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow" together with the jukebox! Even "Freebird" sing-a-longs pale in comparison. 10 Writing an original Christmas song automatically seem...
