Newcastle rocker Eric Burdon had quit his stormy R&B period with the original Animals and assembled The New Animals (Mk. 2), opting for a brand new sound. ‘Winds Of Change’ was packed with outstanding compositions and instantly became a psychedelic classic, even though it was underrated by critics at the time of its release, back in 1967. ‘San Franciscan Nights’ and ‘Good Times’ are simply irresistible, while ‘The Black Plague’ and ‘Hotel Hell’ still send shivers down the spine, and their reworking of The Stones‘ ‘Paint It Black’ is a truly great cover version.
