Aufgezeichnet wurde „Total Abandon – Australia ‘99“ auf Deep Purples 1999er „A Band On World Tour”, die im Anschluss an die Veröffentlichung des Albums „Abandon” vom Jahr zuvor folgte. Die Setliste verknüpft Songs ihrer beiden neunziger Werke „Abandon” und „Purpendicular” mit Klassikern der Siebziger wie „Smoke On The Water”, „Black Night”, „Woman From Tokyo” oder „Fireball” und deutlich seltener gespielten Tracks wie „Almost Human”, „Watching The Sky” und „Bloodsucker”. Steve Morse hatte sich sowohl bei den aktuellen als auch bei älteren Stücken bereits als fabelhafter neuer Gitarrist etabliert und führte die Band zu einer grandiosen Show in Down Under.

“Total Abandon” was recorded in Australia on Deep Purple’s 1999 “A Band On World Tour” which followed the release of the “Abandon” album the previous year. The setlist features tracks from their nineties albums “Abandon” and “Purpendicular” mixed in with classic seventies tracks. By this point Steve Morse had firmly established himself as Deep Purple’s guitarist on tracks both old and new and the band are in fine form on a rocking night down under.
