Carl Perkins is celebrated among rock’n’roll aficionados as the man who first recorded ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, the dynamic song that Elvis Presley later made his own. Indeed, Carl remained a popular figure among loyal fans long after his first flush of success. Although Elvis would become a mega star as he moved onto to more MOR material, Perkins remained the rockabilly king until his death in 1998. His version of ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ got to Number 2 in the US Billboard chart in 1956 and is among the 20 tracks on this boppin’ compilation of songs, recorded during his tenure at the Sun label.
