Knapp fünf Jahrzehnte sind vergangen, seit Bob Dylan die Tracks der legendären The Witmark Demos einspielte - jetzt kommen die Aufnahmen zum ersten Mal offiziell als "The Bootleg Series Volume 9 - The Witmark Demo" sin den Handel. Auf "The Witmark Demos" sind 47 Songs zu hören, die der Songwriter für seine ersten beiden Musikverlage - Leeds Music (Januar 1962) und M. Witmark & Sons (1962-1964) - einspielte. Es ist faszinierend, wie sich die Bob Dylans musikalische Entwicklung anhand dieser Tracks, die er nur mit Gitarre, Harmonika und gelegentlicher Pianobegleitung einspielte, nachvollziehen lässt. Sein traditionell-folkiger Karrierestart mit "Man On The Street" und "Rambling, Gambling Willie" führt über die sozialkritischen Songs "Blowin' In The Wind", "The Times They Are A- Changin'" oder "Masters Of War" zum unvergessenen "Mr. Tambourine Man". Schier unglaublich, dass Dylan noch keine 24 Jahre alt war, als er die Songs auf The Witmark Demos komponierte und aufnahm. Es steht ausser Frage, dass diese Veröffentlichung, wie schon die vorhergehenden acht Ausgaben der Dylan'schen Bootleg Series, von den zahlreichen Dylanfans hierzulande heiss erwartet wird.
