Formed in London in 1979, synthesizer duo Blancmange were first featured on the seminal “Some Bizarre Album” (1981), which also brought Depeche Mode and Soft Cell to the world’s attention.
They signed to London Records and after some success with “God’s Kitchen” and “I’ve Seen The Word” followed by “Feel Me” (# 46), finally broke through in October 1982 with the # 7 hit “Living On The Ceiling” (as recently used in the Berocca TV ad with the treadmills).
Produced by Mike Howlett (Orchestral Manoeuvres, Tears For Fears, Teardrop Explodes, Thompson Twins, Comsat Angels), their first album, “Happy Familes”, features all these early hits as well as the follow-up Top 20 hit “Waves”.
This release contains the 12” mixes of the hits and the non-album b-side “Business Steps”, the majority of which appear on CD for the first time, and are all re-mastered from the original tapes. A special bonus is the extremely rare US instrumental mix of “Feel Me”.
The poster booklet features full annotation, photos and the 12” sleeves.
According to the band’s official MySpace page, Blancmange have recently reformed and are writing material for a new album.
