Also known throughout his career for discovering phenomenal young musicians - including such jazz guitar notables as Larry Coryell, John Scofield, Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkel - Burton presents an exciting new discovery on Generations in the prodigious talents of wunderkind jazz guitarist and composer, Julian Lage. Merely a high school sophomore at the time these sessions were recorded, Lage’s musical maturity, virtuosity and creativity belie his youthful years.

Along with the dynamic trio of pianist Makoto Ozone (also a Burton discovery), bassist James Genus, and drummer Clarence Penn, Burton and Lage deliver intricate-yet-accessible performances of a colorful spectrum of compositions - from inspired, far-reaching new compositions by both Lage and Ozone, to timeless works by Burton’s contemporaries Pat Metheny, Steve Swallow and Carla Bley.
