Featuring: Pete Candoli, Harry ‘ Sweets ‘ Edison, Conrad Gozzo (tp); Frank Rosolino (tb), Bob Enevoldsen (v-tb), Bob Cooper (ts), Buddy Collette (bs, .), Jimmy Rowles (p), Bill Pittman (g), Joe Mondragon (b) & Buddy Rich (d)…
This release contains the first two big band LPs by Buddy Rich, in their entirety: “This One’s for Basie” with arrangements by Marty Paich; and “Richcraft” with conducted and arranged by Ernie Wilkins.
Both albums feature great stars from the East and West Coasts including: Harry "Sweets" Edison, Phil Woods, Al Cohn, Benny Golson, Pete Candoli, Frank Rosolino, Jimmy Rowles, Emmett Berry, Eddie Bert, Jimmy Cleveland, Bob Cooper, Buddy Collette, Billy Byers, Earl Warren, Joe Mondragon and many more.
In 1951, Rich had joined the Harry James band, where he stayed until 1955 - but then joined again in ’59. In between, and during these stints he worked with his own jazz combo, appeared on TV shows as an actor and dancer (taught by his vaudeville parents, he was a fine tap dancer); appeared in movies and did regular night club work as a vocalist - as well as making these two classic albums. A man of many talents - as well as one of the greatest jazz drummers.
Splendid sound quality - new and careful 20-bit remastering.
