On CD for the first time is Art Blakey's "Roots And Herbs" with the great 1961 edition of the Jazz Messengers with Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter. The compositions are all by the brilliant Shorter and include two of his best known Messenger tunes "Ping Pong" and "United". Added to the original album are an alternate take of "The Back Sliders" and alternate versions of "Ping Pong" and "United".
