Certificate of Honour 2009 awarded to Burkhard Schmilgun by the German Record Critics’ Prize

Among classical labels cpo is unrivaled when it comes to the proud claim of releasing one discovery after another from month to month. The man behind this program is Burkhard Schmilgun, who as producer and A&R director has been responsible since 1991 not only for the selection of the label’s artists but also and above all for its repertoire.

With his feeling for gaps off the mainstream he has not only made a lasting contribution to the label’s catalogue but also written a chapter of his own in reception history. It is owing to his engagement that so many a composer who has been forgotten or dismissed as a minor master has at all once again met with recognition and to his persistence that during the past years trailblazing major editions such as those of the orchestral works of Erdmann, Hindemith, Korngold, Krenek, Pettersson, Toch, Weingartner, and Wellesz have been produced.
