Jon Mark originally gained notoriety in the mid sixties as a skilled session musician. He, along with Mick Jagger, produced Marianne Faithfull's earliest releases sometimes playing on her live performances. Like so many British rock stars of the sixties and seventies, he also spent time playing with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, where he met sax player Johnny Almond. The two soon formed Mark-Almond duo, and released several influential jazz rock albums during the seventies. Mark, however, eventually moved to New Zealand where he began playing more new age music, like this 1995 concept album of Celtic ambient music released on the White Cloud label. Here Mark paints a musical portrait of the Viking invasions of Ireland during the ninth century.
