Alexander's Feast or The Power of Musick' zeigt Händel auf dem Höhepunkt seines Oratorien-Schaffens, obwohl die Geschichte des Wettstreits des legendären Sängers Timotheus und der Hl. Cäcilie, der Schutzpatronin der sakralen Musik aus Anlass der Eroberung von Persepolis durch Alexander den Großen zwar für Chor, Solisten und Orchester als Folge von Arien, Rezitativen und Chören komponiert ist, jedoch nicht ausdrücklich als Oratorium.
