Sie kann aber auch Mädchen im Reigen tanzen lassen.“ Der Mann, der dies sagte, war der berühmteste Trompeter aller Zeiten und Klassik-Superstar eines halben Jahrhunderts: Maurice André. Als er im Februar 2012 starb, hinterließ er bei EMI Classics ein gewaltiges Vermächtnis an Aufnahmen. Jetzt ehrt EMI den Künstler, der am 21. Mai 2013 das 80. Lebensjahr gefeiert hätte, mit einer umfangreichen CD-Box: Éternel Maurice André.

Die Vielfalt, die André in seinem Interview-Zitat ansprach, prägt auch seine Aufnahmen: Da sind zum einen die berühmten Konzerte von Telemann, Vivaldi, Albinoni oder Händel, deren barocken Glanz André meisterhaft heraufbeschwor. Der 1933 geborene Franzose, der aus einfachsten Verhältnissen kam und neben dem Musikstudium als Bergmann in den Cevennen arbeitete, war aber auch einer der ersten großen Crossover-Künstler, bevor es den Begriff überhaupt gab. So prägen Arrangements von Broadway-Songs ebenso seine Diskografie wie Opernarien, Strauß-Polkas oder Salon-Piècen wie der atemberaubend schwere „Hummelflug“. Legendär war seine Zusammenarbeit mit Hedwig Bilgram an der Orgel. Zwei CDs der Box „Éternel Maurice André“ sind CD-Erstlinge: Eine Aufnahme mit konzertanten Stücken der Operettenära („Musiques de kiosque“) und das Album „Le prodigieux trompettiste“ mit Evergreen-Arrangements - inklusive einer Bearbeitung von Gershwins „Rhapsody in blue“.
