Die Pianistin Julia Serverus präsentiert auf Ihrem Naxos Solo-Debüt sämtliche Werke für Klavier von George Bizet Es sind wohl seine Werke "L’Arlésienne Suite" und "Carmen", die einem zuerst im Zusammenhang mit dem Komponisten George Bizet einfallen. Von "L’Arlésienne Suite" existiert darüber hinaus eine Transkription für Klavier, die Bizet selbst angefertigt hat. Diese Version ist fast so unbekannt wie die Tatsache, dass der Komponist Bizet auch ein hervorragender Pianist war. Seine Musik für dieses Instrument erstreckt sich über viele verschiedene Stile und Genres –von Chopinesken "Nocturnes" und "Chansons sans paroles",über virtuose "Caprices" und "Chasse fantasiques", bis hin zu hoch dramatischen "Variations chromatiques".

Georges Bizet's popular L'Arlésienne Suites are seldom heard in the composer's own piano transcriptions. Indeed, his delightful compositions and arrangements for this instrument remain to be discovered by many listeners. Bizet was himself an accomplished pianist, whose solo piano works range across many different genres and styles from the Chopinesque lyricism of the Nocturnes and Chansons sans paroles to the virtuosic Caprices and Chasse fantastique and the highly dramatic Variations chromatiques. Julia Severus, who as a member of the Aurora Duo has released recordings of piano transcriptions of music by Tchaikovsky, Balakirev and Glazunov (8.557717 and 8.570418), here makes her solo recording début for the label.
