Jephta wurde zum letzten Oratorium aus der Feder Händels. Schon während der Arbeit daran im Februar 1751 klagte er über Augenprobleme, konnte die Arbeit nach Besserung aber bis zum Herbst desselben Jahres vollenden. Zwei Jahre später erblindete er dann schließlich. Jephta ist sein letztes vollendetes großformatiges Werk gewesen. Ein Meisterwerk, das einige seiner besten musikalischen Einfälle und Ausarbeitungen bereit hält mit großartigen Chören. Hier zu hören in einer mitreißenden Liveaufnahme, 2008 in der Stavanger Concert Hall aufgenommen.
