Acis and Galatea wurde 1743 in einer Druckfassung veröffentlicht und war das einzige Großwerk Händels, das zu seinen Lebzeiten als vollständige Partitur erschien. Zudem war Acis and Galatea ist das erste Werk Händels, das Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart bearbeitete. Er ergänzte je zwei Klarinetten, Fagotte und Hörner und ersetzte die Blockflöten durch Querflöten. Das neuinstrumentierte und in deutscher Sprache gesungene Acis und Galatea (KV 566) fertigte Mozart im November 1788 an, später folgten noch der Messiah, Alexander’s Feast und die Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day.
