Händel-Rarität
Anders als seine Opern und Oratorien, sind die Schauspielmusiken Händels diskographisch bislang kaum erschlossen. Unter den drei Schauspielmusiken Händels ist die zu Tobias Smolletts »Alceste« die bei weitem umfangreichste und bedeutendste. 1745 für eine aufwendig ausgestattete Inszenierung am Covent Garden Theatre entstanden, wurde die gesamte Produktion aus bislang nicht geklärten Gründen kurzfristig abgesetzt. Christian Curnyn und die Early Opera Company haben sich für CHANDOS dieser ausgesprochen interessanten Händel-Rarität angenommen, die viel unbekannten, aber hochkarätigen Händel bietet.
