Francesco Veracini zählt zu den bedeutendsten Geigern des frühen 18. Jahrhunderts. Er verbrachte einige Zeit am glanzvollen Dresdner Hof Augusts des Starken, bevor er nach London ging, wo mehrere seiner Opern am King’s Theatre uraufgeführt wurden. Musikalisch lässt sich Veracini eindeutig der Spätphase der durch Corelli geprägten Sonate zurechnen, deren Prinzipien er variierte, differenzierte und verfeinerte. In den 12 Violinsonaten seiner »Sonate accademiche« op. 2 (1744) hat er seinen Stil zusammengefasst und vollendet. Veracini achtete dabei bei aller Brillanz, Triller-Ornamentik und Doppelgriffkombinationen stets auf Tonschönheit und Leichtigkeit. Es spielt das Locatelli Trio, heute besser bekannt unter dem Namen Convivium.
