The German countertenor Andreas Scholl is today regarded as the foremost exponent of this unusual vocal register revived by Alfred Deller in the mid-20th century. The first compilation of his finest tracks (‘Andreas Scholl, The Voice'), released in 2001, is still in the catalogue; with this second volume in two CDs, you can hear Scholl in his repertoire of choice, the English lute song and the Baroque cantata, surrounded by some of the artists closely associated with him.
